Hi Rebecca and all,
Thanks for the update of the local situation. Just want to share some information that 1,859 IDPs have arrived in Manokwari in October 7 and the number keeps rising because authorities instructed the people to take shelter in a safer place. There were 4 trips a day and one trip can carry up to 450 people. 80% of the buildings, public places, and homes in Wasior were wiped out of the flood and covered in mud.
The discplaced people were mostly sheltered in platoon tents in Korem (military office) field in Manokwari and some were taken care of their distant families.
Food supplies is enough for the next 2-3 days but needs are emerging due to the increasing number of the IDPs. Needs of expectants, nursing mothers and babies are the most significant since food supply are only in form of instant noodles and rice.
Access to Wasior is still difficult, ships are prioritized for search and rescue team and army personnel to help cleaning the mud and debris in the area. More medical personnel are needed in Wasior according to the Local Agency for Disaster Management in Manokwari.
Thanks and regards,
Nova
