Alcoholic energy drinks like Four Loko will be banned by U.S. Food and Drug. The ruling would ban beverages that combine alcohol, caffeine, the stimulant guarana and taurine in which Senator Charles Schumer of New York calls a dangerous as well as toxic drink. The energy alcohol drinks in most state-run liquor stores have already been pulled from the shelves. States that have banned Four Loko include: New York, Michigan, Oklahoma, Utah, Washington and many college campuses.
Phusion Prjoect LLC, makers of Four Loko, halted all it’s sales of their caffeine alcohol beverage this week in New York because of the pressure from Governor David Paterson.
Senator Charles Schumer said in a statement: “This ruling should be the nail in the coffin of these dangerous and toxic drinks. Parents should be able to rest a little easier knowing that soon their children won’t have access to this deadly brew.” The Senator also made the announcement that the Federal Trade Commission will contact the makers of these products that contain caffeine and alcohol to let them know they are marketing the product illegally.
The FDA plans to announce that alcohol and caffeine aren’t a safe combination. The alcoholic energy drink has sent many young people to the hospital and some have been reported dead. Last year, the Food and Drug Administrationi sent out letters to around 30 companies alerting them about their product and the effects it has. In the letter it said they were under review.
Four Loko was given it’s name because of the four main ingredients it has along with the Spanish word for crazy. It contains as much caffeine as three cups of coffee and as much alcohol as three cans of beer, 12 percent alcohol by volume. This is all in a 23.5 ounce can.

This is all retarded. i’ve read sooo many articles online with people saying anything from this drink is unethical to this drink tastes too good. how can a drink be unethical? This drink tastes nothing like soda are you kidding? if anything, it tastes like cough syrup mixed with a bad flat safeway select soda. It just doesn’t make sense. Your going to ban this drink but what about sparks? What about vodka redbull shots at bars? its unbelievably retarded and a couple kids having a bad experience off it is ruining it for everyone. if a kid drinks this and hops in a car and runs over 5 people on the sidewalk, how an you blame it on the drink? the same individual more than likely would drink a 6 pack and drive also. this just boggles my mind.
