Red Ribbon Week is Celebrating 25 years!

Red Ribbon Week Drug Awareness

Red Ribbon Week is upon us this week and is now in it’s 25th year. Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the country and helps educate childen about being drug free. It’s a way for communities to take a stand through a commitment to educate young children and the community to live a drug free life and the ultimate goal to create a drug free America.

Red Ribbon Week was started to pay tribute to a former U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent named Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. His family and friends wore red ribbons to honor his life that was taken in a drug war. Kiki gave his life to fight against drugs. As the story of Kiki spread across the nation, others started to honor Kiki by wearing red ribbons and is now known as Red Ribbon Week (October 23-31).
red ribbon week Schools get very involved in Reb Ribbon week to help educate the children about drug and alcohol awareness and use activites to do so. They wear red clothing, pass out red pledge bracelets, decorate classrooms in red ribbons, and practice how to say “no” to drugs.

100% drug free…except for adderall, Abilify, olanzapine, Risperdal, Zoloft, Prozac …

100% drug free except for all of the drugs that the school requires they have before teaching ‘em. I’ve seen the school send kids home to get their meds and require the parent to bring ‘em back. Drug free??? Really!

So much for drug free. Such blind hypocrisy!
