The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently did a study predicting that nearly 1/3 Americans will have type 2 diabetes mellitus by the year 2050. This study was published in Population Health Metrics. It’s expected that due to large numbers in the aging population and increasing numbers of people at higher risks groups live a longer life span that have type 2 diabetes mellitus.
According to the government data that was collected, that while 20 million people currently have type 2 diabetes mellitus, another 20 million people are in the pre-diabetes stage. The disease is most commonly found in Western rich countries. People with type 2 diabetes face a range of health condidtions that include: heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, eye problems, high blood pressure, nerve damage and many others.
There are some ways a person can help prevent the disease. A few ways to help prevent type 2 diabetes include: having a mediterranean type diet, green leafy vegetables, brown rice, soy products, fish oil, vitamin D, breastfeeding, turmeric black tea, and of course, with anything having good physical exercise helps too. A researcher from Naples, Italy conducted a study from some data and found that people with healthy diets reduced their risk from 15 to 83 percent.
Researchers also found that coffee can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes as well. A study collecting those who drink coffee involving 1141 American Indian men and women aged at 45 to 72 years old. American Indian men and women are known for having high risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It was found that a reduction in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus reduced significantly compared to those who don’t drink coffee to those who drank 12 or more cups daily.

While there is a reduction in those people who drank 1-11 cups of coffee by 7-28 percent, type 2 diabetes mellitus risks reduced 67 percent when drinking more than 12 cups a day.
This benefit to reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus when drinking 12 cups of coffee should be weighed against the effects it would potentially have on your blood pressure and sleep habits.
An earlier study found women who drink 1.1 cups of coffee daily reduced their risks by 34 percent for type 2 diabetes mellitus compared to those who don’t drink coffee.
Both these studies held true for drinking regular and decaffeinated coffee as well as filtered and black coffee. The intake of caffeine signifcantly lowers the risk for type 2 diabetes. Consult your doctor before starting any regimen.
As the old line goes, “The best part of waking up, is Folgers coffee in your cup.”
